Imagination Abroad

While Lincoln Center Institute’s advocacy on behalf of imagination, creativity, and innovation in education and all aspects of life and work constantly gains new ground in the U.S., we are acutely aware that there are many parts of the world where our ideology has not yet made inroads. Since a part of our vision is determinedly global, as we believe that imaginative education must nurture a deep understanding of diverse cultures, it is encouraging to know that we’re by no means alone.

In July, as LCI readied for its own American Imagination Summit, GFEN held a series of nationwide conferences with the theme “For an Other Education.” Promising—but, ask you, what is GFEN?

Oklahoma Creativity Forum on November 1, 2011

The nonprofit organization Creative Oklahoma has announced that it will hold the first annual Oklahoma Creativity Forum on November 1, 2011.

Beyond its subject—human creativity—the Forum bears a few interesting connections to Lincoln Center Institute. Susan McCalmont, the new president of Creative Oklahoma, is a friend who has helped us greatly as an advisor to LCI’s Imagination Conversations initiative. Susan was formerly executive director of the Oklahoma City-based Kirkpatrick Foundation, which hosted the very first Imagination Conversation back in September 2009. And last fall, Creative Oklahoma hosted the 2010 Creativity World Forum, at which I was honored to speak.

Imagination Now Is Back

My fellow bloggers and I are thrilled to announce the return of Imagination Now after a brief summer hiatus. Let me tell you about a few of the exciting developments that have kept Lincoln Center Institute busy in recent months.

LCI hosted America’s Imagination Summit—the capstone of our two-year, national Imagination Conversations initiative—on July 21 and 22 at Lincoln Center in New York City. The Summit gathered nearly 200 influencers—in business, government, science, and the arts, among other fields—to determine how to put imagination, creativity, and innovation at the center of U.S. public education. The event was streamed live to thousands of viewers across the country.
